RED (Short Story)

Before anything is said I think I should make it clear that I am not looking for anyone to pity me. I actually despise the looks of pity that I receive on my travels.

Now that’s established I would like to get straight to the point. In order to do that efficiently I find it necessary you’re aware of the background of my situation. When I was eight I witnessed the deaths of my entire family, and I witnessed my village being burned to ash around me. I remember everything in sharp and agonizing details. The way the leaves fell gently over the wreckage as the fire spread; eating everything in it’s path. The way the smoke moved over the village with slow slender fingers at first, then gripped it all at once; catching my home in an iron vice. The way the building I hid in crumbled around me, the smoke in my lungs weighing me down. I remember it all so clearly. More clearly than I would like too.

Above all though I think I remember the screaming. Near deafening and of course terrifying. To a child it was a perfect depiction of Hell. I very nearly was claimed by the fire; my mother had told me to stay put, in the closet in the very back of my families shop. Though I was only a child and a very frightened one a that. Surrounded by the sounds of my village turning to nothing. I laid on the ground of our little shop, the smoke and my own tears almost blinding me, I don’t think I’ve ever felt more tired than I had in that moment. It was the sound of my mother that had kept me from slipping. She called for me over the roar of the flames and the creaks of the building and the crashes and the screams. Maybe she was just that loud or maybe it was only to me but she called to me and that was all I heard, and it was enough.

I called back to her and she was able to find me despite how weak my voice had grown at that point, my arm burned badly and the wood to high for me to get past. We ran out into the village, or she ran and I merely clung to her. It was undoubtedly the worst sight I have seen in my life. Bodies scattered- no limbs torn from their owners and strewn in a way I couldn’t tell what was what or whom was whom. I was warned not to look, my mother had tried to stop me, but by the time she was finally able to stop my wandering eyes I could barley see anything anyway. Only flashes of red and black covering my once beautiful home.

My mother ran, and I cried, and she tried to shush me but I think you should know now I have always been a very stubborn child. Though for her and because I was frightened but I wanted to be brave the way she was being brave and the way my father had been brave; I hushed myself.

I blame myself for not doing it soon enough.

The silence did not last long. It started with a howl, a sound so loud and drawn out I wondered what kind of lungs must a creature have for a sound like that, the howl could chill anyone to bone. My mother though, seemed more frightened for me than herself, and this next part is why I will never see anyone as more brave than her. This woman who had raised me for as long as she could, and continues to do so though she is no longer with me. It was no dumb luck that we came to a dead end no more than a minute after the howls had ceased. The path blocked by new wreckage, new flames, a trap.

And that is just what we were. Trapped and awaiting what I had no doubt was the same beast that had taken my home. The same beast I saw take my father. You cannot imagine the fear I felt in that moment; or the heartbreak in the next.

My mother set me on the ground and wiped my tears, shushing my quiet sobs, and she said the words I now live by.

“Be brave, even when you are sure there is no hope, and you are face to face with death. Smile, and be brave.”

I hid behind a burning door, and I saw the beast for the second time. My mother fought as bravely and as fiercely as a warrior that night. Stronger than many of the villages men. She fought until her last breath.

It was I who screamed at the sight of the wolf’s claws slashing across the flesh of her stomach, I only wanted to help. I ran from my spot behind the door, I screamed for her to be left alone, I wanted to be brave. Brave like she told me. I took the wolf’s eye as it turned to meet mine, and in return I now have a long scar across my face. My mother saved me, and I was able to run past the creature. My mother saved me, but the price for me was her life.

I blame myself for confusing bravery with recklessness.

I don’t know how long I ran for, or how far I got before I finally got away, I don’t even remember if I did get away. Truthfully. The night comes in flashes I can barley decipher.

It was my grandmother who found me. Deep in the woods with a scar across my face and my clothes torn and dirt stained. My arm was burned and my legs were cut. All in all I’m sure I looked a sight. She brought me back to her cottage, hidden in the middle of the woods where it couldn’t be found.

She brought me back to health but the scar never has fully healed.

My grandmother gave me the tools I needed to follow my mother. Teaching me to defend myself with everything from hand to hand combat to archery. She taught me to use my environment and never feel defeat in a battle no matter how close you are to losing. You can always get the upper hand.

When I was only twelve is when disaster stuck again.

I blame myself for not trusting my instincts. I was told not to trust strangers but I had been tricked.

The wolf had struck again. This time taking my grandmother from me and attempting to kill me as well by hiding and masquerading as her when I returned from my outing. This time it was a huntsmen that helped me defeat the beast.

But the thing never died.

I am now fifteen years old. I have trained nearly everyday of my life since living with my grandmother to defend myself. Although now simply defending myself if attacked is not my only goal. Now I also train to attack; to hunt.

I live by three rules, I follow two mottoes:

Rule number one) Remain silent.

Rule number two) There is a fine line between bravery and recklessness. Never cross it.

Rule number three) Never give your trust away.

Rule number four) Always trust your instincts.

“Be brave, even when you are sure there is no hope, and you are face to face with death. Smile, and be brave.”

“Use my environment and never feel defeat in a battle no matter how close you are to losing. You can always get the upper hand.”

I use these mistakes I’ve made in the past to strengthen me in my current mission. Find the beast that took everything from me. I will hunt it down and never stop, until it’s blood is on my hands.

The wolf took everyone and everything from me. My home, my friends, my family, my life. Now I’m going to return the favor.

My name is Red.

October 2015

‘Sup guys! So firstly, no I actually did not forget to do an October first post, it got deleted. ^^’ Secondly, it’s October! It’s here! We are 11 days into it! Come on there’s no way you aren’t excited. For this post I’m gonna do a list of reasons to be excited about October and then just fall in general. Let’s get started.

1) The Beauty

One of my favorite parts of the Fall is how beautiful it is. When I was little I remember the changing leaves always felt like magic.

2) Hallow’s Eve

Okay so most people call it Halloween now but I still love to call it the original name. Come on though, no matter what you call it, EVERYONE loves Halloween.

3) Dressing Up

No matter how old you are or what you wanna be or who you really are, and despite the fact we should always love ourselves, who doesn’t like the idea of being someone else for a few hours?

4) Sweaters

You can now dance around to Sweater Weather by The Neighborhood in your favorite sweater.

5) Pumpkin

Carving, seeds, painting, pie, smashing, latte, ect. Pumpkins are one of the best parts of Fall.

6) Tv

The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, Arrow, The Flash, ect. Fall is a great Tv time or you can use the time to catch up on your favorite Summer hit.

7) Events

No matter where you live there’s at least one event coming up in Fall to look forward to. For instance I’m hoping to attend a convention this Halloween.

8) Fashion

You can finally try that awesome new outfit that didn’t quite fit for the Summer.

9) Bugs

10) Down the Rabbit Hole

This was the first week of videos for my new Collab channel with my best friend who I also work with on Aggressive Blobs, Raven, and our mutual friend Kelly who I have just started to work with on DTRH

My Video:

Kelly’s Video:

11) Boots

Fall is an amazing time for fashion lovers, as you put your sandals to the back of the back of the closet don’t be sad because now you can move your boots front in center. Another one of my favorite parts.

12) Less Humidity

If your hair is anything like mine, or really if you have hair at all than you understand why this is a reason to get excited.

13) Apple Cider

Something my family gets every Fall, if you’ve never had it get it this Fall.

14) Hoodies

They come in all kinds of designs and they’re super comfortable.

15) Hot Chocolate and Hallow’s Eve candy

Need I say more?

See? There’s plenty of reasons to love the Fall! And that’s not even half of them. What do you guys think? Did you agree with these reasons? Did I miss one of your favorites? Leave me a comment and tell me what your looking forward to this Fall!

Till next time,

‘Sup guys!

This weekend was pretty cool and I feel very accomplished with it.

This Friday night (because honestly how is the morning the weekend when you still go to school?) I took out the new sneakers that I bought out with my Mum that I loved, except one part, the white tips were way to long for my taste and in my opinion took away from the splatter design.

Original shoes:

So to fix this little problem and since I got these on sale, I decided to customize my shoes. Keep in mind: I had NEVER done anything like that before so I was so scared of screwing them up but also so excited to do it since I love design.

I sat in my living room and was motivated by my friend asking about what I was doing to get up and start sketching out my sneaker designs. Obviously I was going with, I had no idea. The first thing I sketched was a bright red AA (Asking Alexandria), that looked sweet but I wasn’t sure if the initial design of the shoe fit the band, and I wanted to keep sketching so I made a TOP (Twenty One Pilots) and the symbol, I made a Crown the Empire design, I made a My Chemical Romanace, I made many many many designs but could not choose. That is until I texted my best friend something at the same time as she texted me the same thing and her Mum called us creepy. I then promptly thanked my adopted Mother (yes, we’re that close her Mother has adopted me, I have to pay for my own food though she’s not feeding me) because I got the idea to do Ghost Town lyrics as that comment got their awesome song ‘You’re so Creepy’ stuck in my head. So sat on the floor I sketched out the band’s symbol and write out a tone of lyrics that could possibly go on the shoe not sporting the syombol, after going all around my house at like 11:30 and even asking my best friend, the most voted lyric (my dad and little brother even voted for this no less) was ‘Creepy Boys You’re Just My Style’so that’s what I wound up doing, and I sketched it out a few times to make sure I knew what I wanted before drawing on the actual shoe itself.

I repeat: I DID NOT KNOW WHAT I WAS DOING. So being the get to fabulous bish I am, instead of waiting and going to get the supplies the internet said I needed to customize my shoes, I went to my room, grabbed a pen, a thing of glitter glue, a few nail polishes, and a clear coat before going back into the living room. This is because A) I am very impatient when bored and B) I have no money and no idea where to get that stuff.

So instead I blast Ghost Town’s song (my shoe’s lyric sake) use a pen too nervously sketch on my design, use nail polish to add to it, and seal it up with a clear coat. I’m pretty proud of the results.

On Saturday I woke up at 7AM and had an hour to get ready as I had to by 9AM be ready to go to a football field to work out with a bunch of other girls. Again, this was in the AM so you can see the problem. Although I was ready with at least fifteen minutes to spare, it was my Dad who insisted on rushing me who was not ready until 8:something.

When we finally did arrive after almost being late because we almost got lost, there were many many girls in colorful outfits some with very done hair and some in makeup or carrying bags. I assume none of them read what we were meant to be doing. So as I waited in line and listened to SayWeCanFly while everyone else listened to some sort of music I paid no attention to as I was listening to SayWeCanFly and that was more important. A volunteer with braided red hair who talked to people in line complimented my hair I complimented her’s (genuinely as I don’t compliment you if I’m not serious) and we had a short discussion on dying your hair where (I know it was like 8:30 and I hadn’t had coffee but still) I literally said ‘YOLO go for it.’ In response to her nerves about dying her hair.

After this exchange I got signed in and went upstairs to get changed (AKA put on my camp shirt over my other shirt as the camp shirt is white and I am a female who was expecting to get soaking wet) and grab a snack before heading to the stands to take a picture where I was going to sit but saw everyone else standing so very awfully and horribly played it off. I thought everyone standing was because they were told but actually it was because it had rained last night and the chairs were a bit wet and I was standing around a lot of girls. So I sat down right when I realized this but bit my tongue on the fact it was kinda ridiculous to do that since we were getting wet anyway to cool down later.

After a group picture we headed back inside for a dance off (which yes.. Because no other girls wanted to I sadly partook in and yes I am a dancer and just said that) and a few speeches as well as a surprise poetry reading. After this we broke into age groups and moved to different rooms at different times for different activities. My group started out with a talk on decision making as we get older which I found really cool and a very important subject, we also talked about troubles many people face in life and how anyone can struggle with insecurities, depression, anxiety, or just in general hard period like family, friend, or any life problems despite their age or where they come from or where they are.

The next room we went to we analyzed the lyrics to ‘TLC – Unpretty’ and listened to the song together than chatted about the importance of self esteem and broke into groups to write each other cards with complements on them.

After that we went down stairs to play a game where we put on short plays about peer pressure, bullying, boyfriend pressure, and family issues. After which we talked about it all in real terms.

Then for the fitness part we finally went outside and all got snacks and drinks to take a (very very short) break before heading out to the football players training field. There we drilled like the players and then competed in various games such as tug of war (my team won so the other team did push ups hehe) and races. All and all it was a really fun day and I even met someone their who seems really cool and exchanged Tumblr’s (yes, tumblr’s) so may have even gotten a new friend.

After all this I ate the provided lunch in the car and went to get groceries with my Dad and pick up milk for my sister, then he bought me Starbucks and I recorded at home with my best friend for our YouTube channel.

My favorite picture of me from the event:

Sunday was a lazy day. I woke up at around 12-1PM (don’t judge me like you’ve never done it) and spent most of the day in my room and on the internet doing thing I don’t even know. I spend 90% of my life on my computer and I don’t even know what I do on my computer.

Comment how your weekend went! Did you do anything special? Or was it just an extended version of my Sunday (in which case: LUCKY)?

Till next time,

My Channels

‘sup guys! Today I’m really excited to share a few projects I’ve been working on, lately I’ve been super active with planning YouTube and I have three projects happening I wanna talk about today in this update, the first one has been going on for some time and it’s called Aggressive Blobs.

Aggressive Blobs is a channel I share with my Best Friend and now partner, Raven, and we started it a few months ago but have just begun filming and uploading on a weekly schedule. Every Saturday we put up a new video and we cover a large variety of content from quizzes to story reads and vlogging to skits we have something for everyone and are soon going to be starting to podcast as well so you should definitely check us out, like, comment, subscribe, and share us out if you like us or we make you laugh. We’d love to hear from anyone who watched our videos so don’t be shy to leave us a message on our social media either. We recently reached our second subscriber goal which was twenty and our goal for our latest video is to make it our most viewed while our goal for our subscribers is 39.

Latest video:

The next project I have is a channel I run myself and it’s called ThatxImpossiblexLostxGirl. I have two sub channels one for music (LaLaLost Girl) and one for vlogging (ImpossibleAdventures) and will soon start posting on my main channel weekly or at least bi-weekly on Wednesday’s. I have one video up on my main channel currently and one on my music channel while my vlogging channel has about two-three. This week I’ll be posting a video of myself reading off my 21st century analysis of Romeo and Juliet so subscribe to me to be updated on when it comes out and know when I post.

And the last but certainly not the least anticipated project I have is going to be called Down the Rabbit Hole and is a collab channel I will be running with 2-6 friends including Raven from Aggressive Blobs. We are currently in the works of planning out the channel and will be starting at the beginning of October. Each week we will be posting and every member will have an assigned day to post on so if all six join then we will have a video out every day which would be awesome. Every week will be a different theme and all the videos will center around that, the first video for everyone will be an introduction to them and I will post an update to the project once we have more information.

Channel Art:

So what do you think? Are you excited about these projects? Which are you most looking forward too? Thoughts on the videos and channels? Comment on the post and let me know.
Till next time,

Music Review: Halsey

‘Sup guys! Lately I’ve been listening to quite a bit of music by an up and coming artist, so for my first review I only thought it fitting it feature her.

Soon to be Twenty-one year old Ashley Frangipane, best known by her stage name Halsey, may be just breaking out onto the music scene but she definitely isn’t new to music. Before she was signed to Astralwerks Halsey sang on a YouTube channel under her birth name and made appearances at various venue’s under different stage names.

In early 2014 she was signed after catching Astralwerks’ attention from posting her song Ghosts on Soundcloud. Late in the same year her first EP ‘Room 93’ was released. She has since toured with bands such as Young Rising Sons, The Kooks, and Imagine Dragons, released her first full length concept album, and become the most talked about person online at South by So What. Halsey is now planning her first headlining tour to travel through Europe and North America.

Halsey has a very unique sound, growing up she would hear Father listen to Noturious B.I.G and 2Pac while she’d hear her Mother listening to The Cure and Nirvana, she references this experience in her song New Americana off her first full length album Badlands, she says this has influenced her music style. Helping her come to this unique sound.

The first time I heard Halsey I was in my Dad’s car, half asleep in the backseat as we went to pick up my Mum from work, with my headphones(as always) blasting in my ears. I was listening to the radio and her song Ghost came on, I had no clue who was singing but I remember just instantly loving the song and for the next few days listening to it about a hundred times. I finally got the idea to check out a few other songs by her and fell in love with the Room 93 EP, I was always singing lines from my favorite songs Ghost and Hurricane. Her first EP was definitely a right start to her career.

As for Badlands when the Album came out this August I was very excited, when I saw my last two favorites had gotten onto the Album which went by a story created by Halsey by the same name. It features 16 songs written by the artist being described as ‘Indie Pop’. The album as a whole did not fail to meet the high expectations I had after Halsey’s first EP, and it seems I’m not the only one it hit home for. The album is currently number nine on the iTunes Charts after being out for three weeks and debuted at number two on the billboard charts. With her headlining tour just a few weeks away and the Internet buzzing about her, it looks like Halsey will be around a while and is only gonna grow. Word is she’s already started writing for her second studio album.

What are your thoughts on the rising star? Tell me in the comments.

Till next post,
